Erlangen boasts three Christmas markets: the classic Hauptmarkt at Schloßplatz, the Waldweihnacht in the castle gardens, and the Altstädter Weihnachtsmarkt on Altstädter Kirchplatz. The Altstädter version is the quietest of the three: "You won't find the hustle and bustle of other markets here," promise the organizers. On the square in front of the Dreifaltigkeitskirche, you'll find select stalls with products from local artists and associations.

Arts and Crafts Instead of Mass-Produced Goods

The stall concept focuses on arts and crafts and regional products: ceramics, woodwork, textiles, jewelry, honey, jams, candles. In 2026, the market celebrates its first decade – it has been establishing itself as Erlangen's "third Christmas market" for about ten years.
