Four days of tradition, funfair, and live music in the Kurpark — since 1902
Over 120 years of tradition: Since 1902, the Volksfestverein Albersdorf e.V. has been organizing the Pfingstvolksfest — one of the largest and oldest Volksfeste in the Dithmarschen district. The venue is the Kurpark in the heart of the municipality, supplemented by the pavement of Bahnhofstraße, Brutkampsweg, and the surrounding squares. For four days, the small Geest town on the western edge of the state of Schleswig-Holstein transforms into a single festival ground.
Anyone entering the Kurpark is immediately immersed in the soundscape of a classic North German funfair: dodgems, Ferris wheel, shooting galleries, candy floss, and fish rolls are just as much a part of it as the stalls around the festival grounds. Showmen from all over North Germany travel here every year and set up their attractions among the old trees of the Kurpark.
The musical backdrop is provided by performances from regional and national artists — from Schlager stars to party bands. On Whit Saturday, the grand fireworks display traditionally takes place at 10:30 PM, and on Whit Sunday, starting at 1:15 PM, the grand parade winds its way through Bahnhofstraße, led by the Ratzeburg marching band. In between: ox on a spit, forest service, pub choir, sword dancers.
Whit Monday is dedicated to families: martial arts displays, dance groups, Kreft's Puppet Theatre, and the children's disco are on the programme before the live band plays for the finale in the evening. A children's flea market also takes place on the schoolyard on Saturday morning.
Albersdorf is located about 25 kilometers south of Heide, the district capital, and is known as a state-recognized health resort, primarily for its Kurpark and the Stone Age Park Museum. The Pfingstvolksfest is one of the identity-forming events of the Dithmarscher Geestland — a major social event that brings together clubs, schools, and church communities from the region.
