Largest summer city festival in the Wittelsbacher Land region with six stages
The Aichach City Festival was first held in 1975 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025. The town of Aichach in the Wittelsbacher Land (Aichach-Friedberg district, Swabia) holds a special place in Bavarian history: it is considered the ancestral homeland of the Wittelsbachs, who shaped Bavaria's destiny as Bavarian Dukes, Electors, and Kings from 1180 to 1918. The nearby Wittelsbacher Castle was the dynasty's ancestral seat.
Over an August weekend, the entire Aichach city center between the Oberer and Unterer Stadtplatz transforms into a large beer garden and concert venue. Six stages are spread across the central squares and street intersections, with around 15 live acts performing throughout the festival weekend – the range includes folk music and Bavarian brass, rock, indie, and Schlager, as well as DJ sets. On Saturday evening, there's an open-air disco on the main square, and on Sunday morning, the traditional 'Frühschoppen' on the Oberer Stadtplatz with brass music and a Weißwurst breakfast.
The catering is provided entirely by Aichach clubs and restaurateurs – similar to the Pocking Bürgerfest or other Bavarian city festivals. Shooting clubs, sports clubs, fire departments, traditional costume associations, and parishes operate catering stands and food services; the proceeds flow back into the respective club's activities. This makes the city festival a true community festival, supported by the entire town.
The 50th anniversary celebrated in 2025 was a highlight of the festival's history: a special exhibition on the city festival's history, "Old Times" program items like Maßkrugstemmen (stein holding), Steinheben (stone lifting), and Fingerhakeln (arm wrestling), plus family afternoons with children's bands, dance performances, and magicians complemented the musical program. In 2026, the city festival begins a new chapter with its 51st edition, solidifying its reputation as the summer highlight of the Wittelsbacher Land.
Aichach, with just under 23,000 inhabitants, is the district capital of the Aichach-Friedberg district. The historic old town with its characteristic double town square (Oberer and Unterer Stadtplatz), the walled old town, and the Oberes Tor is one of the most beautiful townscapes in Swabia. Its location between Augsburg and Munich makes Aichach an attractive destination for day trips; the city festival combines this location with a vibrant festival culture.
On the weekend of August 1st to 2nd, 2026, the Aichach city center will transform into an open-air festival ground for the 51st time. From Saturday 4 PM to Sunday 2 PM, six stages with around 15 live acts will entertain the city center around the Stadtplatz.
Saturday evening also features an open-air disco on the main square. On Sunday morning, the festival concludes with a relaxed Frühschoppen with brass music on the Oberer Stadtplatz. As always, Aichach clubs and restaurateurs will provide catering with Franconian-Swabian specialties.
Free admission to the festival grounds. Food, drinks, and a Maß of beer at Swabian-Bavarian festival prices directly at the club stalls and inns. Admission to the open-air disco is also free.
