Indie, Rock, HipHop and Punk in the countryside of Unterfranken
'Ab geht die Lutzi!' began in 2012 as a small village festival in Rottershausen, a place with 500 inhabitants in the district of Bad Kissingen. Today, 15 years later, it is one of the most independent indie and rock festivals in Mainfranken. The organizer is the voluntary Lutzi e.V. – an association of committed young people from the region who put on the festival without major corporate sponsorship. This is precisely what gives Lutzi its character: uncommercial, personal, with short distances between bands and audience.
The program is spread across four to five stages and features over 40 bands and DJs in the genres of Indie, Rock, HipHop, Punk, Ska, Alternative, Techno, Electro, EDM, and Singer-Songwriter. Unlike commercial festivals, Lutzi emphasizes a balanced mix of supra-regional headliners and newcomers from the Franconian music scene. The Freestyle Rap Battles are a Lutzi specialty, in which every festival visitor can participate.
The grounds offer spacious campsites, several food stalls with street food from burgers to vegan options, and a dedicated Awareness Team trained to intervene in cases of harassment or difficult situations. The organizers value accessibility – wheelchair platforms in front of the stages, accessible sanitary facilities, and accompanying persons receive special tickets.
The 15th anniversary brings two of the most important German indie bands of the present day to Rottershausen: Giant Rooks, who have been among Germany's internationally most successful indie acts since 2014 (Saturday headliner), and Von Wegen Lisbeth, whose ironically melancholic songs have shaped a whole generation (Thursday headliner). In addition, there will be Swiss & Die Andern, Disarstar, Schmutzki, Blackout Problems, and many others.
Rottershausen is located in the Franconian Saaletal valley, between Schweinfurt and Bad Kissingen, nestled in the hilly landscape of Unterfranken. The journey is worthwhile: rural beauty, its own microclimate, and the festival areas of Lutzi are designed so that you only have short distances between the stage, camp, and food trucks.
What makes Lutzi special: no over-commercialization, no VIP tickets, no major sponsors with brand activation. Instead, 5,000 people celebrating music together because they truly love it. If you miss this at large open-airs, you'll find it here.
The 2026 anniversary year brings together a particularly strong selection: Giant Rooks and Von Wegen Lisbeth as supra-regional headliners, Swiss & Die Andern, Disarstar, Schmutzki, Blackout Problems, Chapo102, Mal Élevé, and many others. A total of over 40 bands and DJs on four to five stages spread over three days. A 'Super Secret Special' on Saturday for the 15th anniversary has already been announced.
