67 Years of Ortenau Wine Culture

The Ortenauer Weinfest in Offenburg is one of the largest and most renowned wine festivals in southwestern Germany. First held in 1958, the 2026 edition marks its 67th year, cementing its status as a staple of the Ortenau wine calendar. The Ortenau—a Baden wine region stretching about 60 kilometers along the edge of the Black Forest from Baden-Baden/Rastatt in the north to Offenburg in the south—is famous for its red wines (especially Pinot Noir) and dry white wines like Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, and Gewürztraminer. In the central Ortenau, around Durbach's Klingelberg, Riesling is traditionally called Klingelberger: back in 1782, Margrave Carl Friedrich of Baden commissioned the first pure Riesling hillside vineyard in Baden there—it is the same grape variety, not a distinct one. 22 wineries from the Ortenau will be presenting their wines in 2026, including the Durbach, Waldulm, and Rammersweier cooperatives, the Gengenbach-Offenburg wine manufactory, and the estates of Andreas Laible, Alexander Laible, Schloss Ortenberg, and Freiherr von und zu Franckenstein.

Four Days on the Main Street

In 2026, the Ortenauer Weinfest will move entirely to Offenburg's Hauptstraße, the city's central pedestrian zone, as the usual market square location is unavailable due to the installation of a new tree grove for climate cooling. The festival mile will run from the Rathausplatz to the northern city center, utilizing Offenburg's busiest axis with four stages along the route. Four days of festivities: Friday, September 25 from 6 PM (opening), Saturday 26, Sunday 27, and Monday 28, all starting at 6 PM. Admission is completely free—costs are incurred only through wine tastings at the individual stands.

Winemakers of the Ortenau

22 wineries from the Ortenau will be represented in 2026: the Durbach, Waldulm, and Rammersweier cooperatives, the Gengenbach-Offenburg wine manufactory, and the estates of Andreas Laible and Alexander Laible (both Durbach), Schloss Ortenberg, and Freiherr von und zu Franckenstein. Around 200 wines, sparkling wines, and Seccos will be available for tasting—ranging from Pinot Noir and Riesling (Klingelberger) to Müller-Thurgau and Gewürztraminer.

Bus Festival and Tradition

On Friday and Saturday evenings, special buses (lines B, C, D, E, and F) operated by Südwestbus and SWEG will run from surrounding Ortenau communities to the festival and back—a service that makes visiting without a car easy and strengthens the festival's regional ties. The atmosphere of the Ortenauer Weinfest is a blend of festive wine enjoyment and Baden conviviality—not a high-culture event, but a folk festival of high oenological quality. On Sunday, a family program featuring street performers, magic, bubbles, and a graffiti workshop will round out the offerings.
