One of Baden's largest wine festivals — a four-day festival mile on Offenburg's Hauptstraße
The Ortenau Wine Festival in Offenburg is one of the largest and most renowned wine festivals in southwestern Germany. First held in 1958, its 67th edition in 2026 has made it a firm institution of the Ortenau wine year. The Ortenau — the geographical and cultural region between the Black Forest and the Rhine, with Offenburg at its center — belongs to the Baden wine-growing region and is famous for its characterful red wines (especially Pinot Noir), dry white wines (Riesling, Müller-Thurgau), and specialties like Gewürztraminer and Klingelberger (a specialty grape variety from Ortenau). More than 100 vintners and wine cooperatives present themselves at the festival.
In 2026, the Ortenau Wine Festival will be relocated to Offenburg's Hauptstraße — the city's central pedestrian zone — due to construction work in the market square. The festival mile will stretch along Hauptstraße between Bahnhofstraße and Andreasplatz, thus utilizing Offenburg's busiest axis. Four days of festivities: Friday, September 25, starting at 6 PM (festival opening), Saturday, September 26, Sunday, September 27, and Monday, September 28, starting at 6 PM daily. Admission is completely free — financial participation occurs through wine tastings at the stands.
The most important wineries of Ortenau are represented: from Durbach, the wine village par excellence (Berghaupten, Weingut Andreas Laible, Weingut Andreas Männle, Weingut Andreas Stigler), from Ortenberg, Lautenbach, Zell-Weierbach, Achkarren, Sasbachwalden, Kappelrodeck, Ettenheim, and many others. Cooperative wineries such as Schwarzwälder Hausbrennerei and Winzergenossenschaft Lautenbach also have large stands. A cross-section of the Ortenau wine scene at the highest qualitative level — many of the represented vintners are regularly featured in the top rankings of German wine guides (Eichelmann, Gault Millau).
An important innovation in recent years: the Bus Festival on Friday and Saturday evenings. Special buses from the surrounding Ortenau communities bring visitors directly to and from the festival grounds — a service that eases the traffic problem while strengthening the festival's regional ties. For residents from Lahr, Achern, Renchen, Kehl, and the Black Forest valleys, the festival is thus easily accessible without the need for a car. Atmospherically, the Ortenau Wine Festival is a mix of festive wine enjoyment and Baden conviviality — not a high-culture format, but a Volksfest (folk festival) at a high oenological level.
The 67th Ortenau Wine Festival Offenburg takes place from Friday, September 25 to Monday, September 28, 2026. Venue for 2026: Offenburg's Hauptstraße (instead of the usual market square location — relocation due to construction work). Festival opening daily from 6:00 PM, admission completely free.
The organizer is the City of Offenburg / Stadtmarketing. Over 100 vintners and cooperative wineries from the Ortenau wine-growing region present their current vintages. Bus festival on Friday and Saturday evenings brings visitors from all over Ortenau to the festival and back.
