A Community Celebrates 650 Years of History
The municipality of Wendisch Rietz on the northern shore of the Scharmützelsee (Oder-Spree district) was first documented in 1376 – as a settlement of Slavic origin between Mittelmark and Niederlausitz. In 2026, this first mention marks its 650th anniversary – an occasion for a three-day festival.
Festival Weekend May 29–31, 2026
The main festival weekend from May 29th to 31st, 2026, forms the core of the anniversary year. The municipality is planning a packed program of music, shows, catering, and family activities – with free admission.
Friday, May 29th – “Wendisch Rietz Dances”
- 7:00 PM: Live concert with Daniel Hilpert

650 Years Wendisch Rietz — edition 2026
Three festive days for Wendisch Rietz's 650th birthday. Friday kicks off at 7 PM with the grand festival evening 'Wendisch Rietz Dances': live performance by Daniel Hilpert, DJ set by Enrico Ostendorf, concluding fireworks at 10:45 PM over the Scharmützelsee. Saturday is dedicated all day to the family and show program. Sunday concludes with a morning pint and Joe's Bigband live from 11 AM to 2 PM.
