Three Towns, One Wine Hiking Festival

In the Ludwigsburg district, at the confluence of the Neckar and Enz rivers, lie three historic wine towns, each with a long tradition: Bönnigheim, Besigheim, and Bietigheim-Bissingen. Together, they have formed the "3B-Land" tourism region and jointly market their wine culture. The highlight of the tourist year is the annual wine hiking event "3B Wine Highlights: Enjoyable Hiking along the Neckar, Enz, and Stromberg" — a day route through the picturesque vineyards of the three towns. In 2026, the event will take place on Sunday, August 9, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Start in Besigheim — Queen of the Wine Towns

The starting point is Besigheim, once chosen by "Wein-Plus" magazine as the "most beautiful wine village in Germany." The half-timbered old town with its two Romanesque towers above the confluence of the Neckar and Enz rivers offers a spectacular starting point. From 10:00 AM, the organizers will welcome hikers at the market square, handing out the hiking program — route description, map of stations, and a tasting glass. The route is designed as a circular path and leads through the vineyards of all three towns.

Stops in the Vineyards

Along the way, at about ten to twelve stops, you'll find the region's vintners: Württemberg cooperative, individual wineries from the three towns, Lemberger specialists, Trollinger classics, and young newcomers with Rivaner and Cabernet Sauvignon. At each stop, a local wine will be offered for tasting, and regional restaurateurs will present small bites — from Maultaschen to Flammkuchen to game from the Stromberg. The stops are all a few hundred meters apart, and the elevation difference between the highest vineyards on the Stromberg and the lowest on the Neckar is about 200 meters.

Stromberg, Neckar, and Enz

The route follows the geology of the three rivers: from the Neckar valley through the vineyards near Bietigheim up to the Stromberg plateau, then across to the Bönnigheim vineyards and back down into the Enz valley to Besigheim. The views are breathtaking — from some points, the view extends far into the Württemberg foothills and, on clear days, to the Swabian Jura. From spring to autumn, the slopes display different shades of color: in August, the grapes are ripening, the foliage is still lush green, and the last hours of sunlight cast a warm glow over the vineyards.

Admission with Glass and Program

Participants pay a flat fee that includes a tasting glass, route description, and some tasting tokens. Additional wine tastings are paid for individually on-site. Enjoyment hiking is a day format — from late morning to early evening, the entire circular route can be completed at a relaxed pace. For families with children or less energetic hikers, the organizers recommend a shortened version between two of the three towns.
