Grand Anniversary Celebration of the Saarbrücken District of Eschringen on the Weekend of June 13/14, 2026
The Volunteer Fire Brigade Eschringen was founded in 1876 — at a time when the Prussian province of Saarland was just establishing its municipal fire protection organization. Over the decades, it evolved from initial bucket brigades into a modern volunteer fire brigade, which today is part of the Saarbrücken Fire Department as Fire District 26. In 2026, the brigade celebrates its 150th anniversary with a two-day festival, to which the entire district community is invited.
Eschringen is located in the southernmost part of Saarbrücken, directly on the border with the municipality of Mandelbachtal in the Saarpfalz district. With just under 1,700 inhabitants, the district has a village character and is only about a ten-minute drive from Saarbrücken city center. The fire brigade plays a central role in village life — as a voluntary service, a social meeting point, and the organizer of the most important festivals.
As early as 2001, Eschringen celebrated its 125th anniversary with a three-day festival. At that time, a spectacular boat race on the stream was part of the program — typical for Saarland fire brigade festivals with their mix of traditional demonstration drills and improvised competitions. The legendary suction and pressure pump from 1904 was also presented back then, and it will very likely be on display again in 2026.
Even though the complete program for 2026 has not yet been published in detail, the program points can be inferred from the tradition of Saarland fire brigade anniversaries:
In Saarland, volunteer fire brigades are more than just emergency responders — they are the backbone of social life in villages and districts. Anniversary celebrations like the 150th in Eschringen therefore attract not only the local population but also delegations from neighboring brigades. Guests of honor are expected from Mandelbachtal, Kleinblittersdorf, Brebach-Fechingen, and other fire districts.
On June 13 and 14, 2026, Eschringen will become a festival mile: The Volunteer Fire Brigade invites the entire Saarbrücken population and friendly brigades to the grand anniversary celebration. The full program will be published in spring 2026 on the district's website and via the Eschringen Fire Brigade's social media channels.
Exact details and any changes will be published on eschringen.de and via the Facebook page of the Eschringen Fire Brigade.
