Four Days of Celebration for the Volunteer Fire Brigade Enkingen in the Ries Village of Ederheim
Enkingen is a small district of the municipality of Ederheim in the Donau-Ries district, located on the southwestern edge of the Nördlinger Ries crater. The area is characterized by the unique geology of the Ries (impact of an asteroid 14.5 million years ago), which forms fields, hill ranges, and villages in an almost circular depression. Enkingen itself has only a few hundred inhabitants — the Volunteer Fire Brigade Enkingen has been the central club life of the hamlet since 1876.
The Volunteer Fire Brigade Enkingen, founded in 1876, has navigated its club life through two world wars, technological changes from horse-drawn pumps to modern TLF (tank pumper) vehicles, and demographic shifts in the Ries. For over five generations, it has protected the small community and sustained its club life. The 150th anniversary in 2026 is the central celebration of this long tradition.
The Donau-Ries District Fire Brigade Association (KFV) officially lists the 150th anniversary of the FF Enkingen for the date of July 2–5, 2026. The festival is embedded in the dense Donau-Ries fire brigade festival calendar, which offers a jubilee or founding festival almost every weekend between May and September in one of the many village fire brigades. Immediately following, the FF Untermagerbein celebrates its own 150th anniversary from July 10–12, 2026.
The FF Enkingen has published the complete festival program on its website ffw-enkingen.de; the KFV Donau-Ries has confirmed the date in the fire brigade festival calendar. Free admission to the festival, voluntary donations via food and drink sales at the stand.
The Enkingen brigade is one of the oldest continuously active village brigades in the Donau-Ries district. The 150th anniversary is the largest self-organized event since its 100th anniversary festival in 1976 and since the 125th anniversary festival in 2001.
Free admission to all program points. Food and drinks at club prices, cash payment at the stand. Donations welcome through food and drink sales.
