Five days of festival tent, traditional costumes, and Bavarian music for the grand anniversary in Samerberg
Since its founding in 1896, the GTEV Hochries-Samerberg Grainbach has been part of Gauverband I — the umbrella organization of Bavarian traditional costume associations in the Munich region and the Bavarian Prealps. With 130 years of existence, the association continues a significant chapter of Upper Bavarian folk tradition history in 2026. The club preserves Schuhplattler (a traditional folk dance), folk dance, traditional costumes, and Bavarian songs — and is deeply rooted in the community of Samerberg, a village of 1,500 inhabitants.
The festival week takes place on the Grainbach festival grounds, the central event site of Samerberg in the Rosenheim district. The festival tent will be set up for the entire five days, hosting a themed evening with Bavarian music each day. The program clearly distinguishes the days — from the club and neighborhood evening on the opening day, through the beer and wine festival, gala evening, and festival Sunday, to the traditional Kesselfleischessen at the end of the festival.
The highlight of the festival week is Sunday, August 16, 2026, with a field service on the festival grounds followed by a grand procession. Traditional costume associations from the entire Gauverband I, friendly clubs, and delegations from patron associations will march through Grainbach in traditional attire — marksmen, music bands, Schuhplattler groups, and whip crackers (Goaßlschnoizer).
The musical program features some big names from the Bavarian-Tyrolean folk music scene on stage: Boarisch Bris and the Hubertus Musikanten open on Thursday, the Zellberg Buam from Zillertal play on Friday along with the Preaner Buam, the Samerberger Musi takes over on festival Saturday, and the Beirer Blech brass band accompanies the Kesselfleisch Monday.
The municipality of Samerberg is located at the foot of the Hochries mountain (1,569 m) between Rosenheim and Chiemgau. Those who come to the founding festival in 2026 can ideally combine a day of hiking or a cable car ride up the Hochries with a visit to the festival — festival week in the tent in the evening, mountains during the day.
The festival week combines internal club patronage with public festival tent operations. Each day has a clear profile — from the neighborhood evening on Thursday to the Bavarian-Tyrolean beer and wine evening on Friday, and the classic Bavarian festival Sunday. The procession on Sunday with traditional costume associations, music bands, and patron associations from Gauverband I is the emotional highlight.
By car: A8 Munich–Salzburg, exit Rosenheim-Süd, then B181 to Samerberg-Grainbach. By train: Rosenheim main station, then continue by bus or taxi.
Entry to the festival tent is free. Food and drinks available on-site; table reservations recommended for the main evenings.
Welcome — Lederhosen, Dirndl, Janker. Of course, visitors without traditional attire are also welcome.
