Four days of anniversary celebration for the fire brigade in the Upper Palatinate
Founded in 1896 — 130 years ago — the Zangenstein Volunteer Fire Brigade is one of the traditional brigades in the Schwandorf district in the Upper Palatinate. Zangenstein is a district of the municipality of Schwarzhofen, located in the southeastern Upper Palatinate hill country, not far from the Czech border. As everywhere in the Upper Palatinate, the fire brigade is not only a relief organization but also a central village club with a social function.
The anniversary festival lasts from Father's Day (Ascension Day) to Sunday — from May 14th to 17th, 2026. The marquee at the festival grounds on the outskirts of Zangenstein will be the center of the festival week. Various bands from the region will provide musical accompaniment: VA Blech on Father's Day, Pirker Blechmusi on Friday, Quertreiber on Saturday, Seenland Musikanten on Sunday morning, and Narrisch at the end of the festival.
The partner fire brigades play a special role — the FFW Zangenstein has asked the brigades from Dürnersdorf, Schwarzhofen, and Altendorf for their partnership. They will be ceremonially welcomed on Friday evening (May 15th) and led into the marquee, followed by a memorial service for deceased comrades, the ceremonial tapping of the first beer keg, and the official opening of the festival. On festival Sunday, the grand parade with partner brigades, friendly clubs, and traditional costume groups will march through Zangenstein.
In the Schwandorf district — located between Regensburg, Amberg, and the Czech border — club culture is as vibrant as almost anywhere else. Hundreds of clubs shape social life, and fire brigade anniversaries like the 130th of FFW Zangenstein are central meeting points. Anyone who wants to experience authentic Upper Palatinate club life will find an ideal occasion at the Zangenstein anniversary festival in 2026.
From May 14th to 17th, 2026, the Zangenstein Volunteer Fire Brigade will celebrate its 130th anniversary in the large marquee on the outskirts of town. Partner fire brigades from Dürnersdorf, Schwarzhofen, and Altendorf have been invited and will be ceremonially welcomed on Friday evening.
The program follows the classic Upper Palatinate fire brigade anniversary format with Father's Day, Ladies Night, opening ceremony, band performances, parade, and church service. Free admission to the festival grounds.
