120 Years of Fire Protection in the Harz Foreland

In 2026, the Volunteer Fire Brigade Wasserleben looks back on 120 years of continuous club activity – a remarkable anniversary. Founded in 1906, the club has persevered through two world wars, German division, and reunification, and today serves as a pillar of regional civil protection in the municipality of Nordharz.

The anniversary celebration will take place as a two-day event at the Kamp Wasserleben festival grounds. Classic elements of a fire brigade anniversary will be offered: a ceremonial act with a celebratory speech, honors for long-standing members, a demonstration of fire brigade technology (old and modern vehicles), equipment displays, a dance evening for social gatherings, and a family program with demonstrations for children. Guests from neighboring brigades and political representatives are also expected.

Wasserleben is a district of the municipality of Nordharz in the Harz district, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. The municipality is located on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains, in close proximity to Wernigerode, Halberstadt, and Ilsenburg. Those who are traveling to the Harz anyway can easily combine the anniversary celebration with a weekend hike.
