1050 Years of Village History
The small municipality of Monstab in the Altenburger Land is celebrating its 1050th anniversary in 2026. The rural village, which belongs to the Rositz administrative district, looks back on over a millennium of documented history. The official announcement from the Rositz administrative district states the motto: "1050 Years Monstab – A Village Writes History and Celebrates It Grandly."
A Full-Day Festival on August 22
The anniversary will be celebrated on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with a full-day festival program in the village. The municipality of Monstab and its clubs have been preparing the festival for months – a program including a parade, stage shows, club stalls, and an evening celebration with live music is expected.
Monstab – Altenburger Land
Monstab is located about 6 km west of Altenburg in the Altenburger Land district in eastern Thuringia. The area is predominantly agricultural and known for its rich folklore (legend trails) due to its Franconian and Saxon history. The village anniversary is one of the most significant events in the Rositz administrative district in 2026.
1050 Years Monstab — edition 2026
The event is organized by the municipality of Monstab in cooperation with its clubs (fire department, sports, singing society, cultural preservation). A detailed program and commemorative publication will be released in advance on vg-rositz.de and in the local press (ABG-Net).
