First city festival of the year in Kirchheimbolanden with arts and crafts, culinary delights, information, and Sunday shopping
The Frühlingserwachen is the first city festival of the year in Kirchheimbolanden and marks the spring-like start of the event season. In the old town alleys and squares of the Kleine Residenz, traders, artisans, and restaurateurs gather for a cozy Sunday with shopping, catering, and information.
In 2026, the Frühlingserwachen will take place on Sunday, March 8th. The market mile starts at 11 am, and shops open from 12 pm to 5 pm for Sunday shopping. The organizer is the marketing association proKIBO e.V., which organizes and coordinates the most important city festivals in Kirchheimbolanden.
After the winter months, the desire for the start of spring and shared conviviality is great. The Frühlingserwachen fulfills exactly this need: On a Sunday in March, the old town of the former residential town transforms into a festive stage, inviting citizens and visitors to stroll, chat, and linger. It is the official opening of the KiBo event season.
The market mile stretches through the main streets of the old town and features around 30-50 stalls with arts and crafts, culinary offerings, and information. Artisans present jewelry, ceramics, glass, textiles, and woodwork. Restaurateurs offer sausages, crêpes, coffee and cake, wine, and beer. Clubs, initiatives, and counseling centers use the festival to present their services and engage with citizens.
A central component is the Sunday shopping: The retail stores in the city center open their doors from 12 pm to 5 pm, offering spring fashion, gifts, and seasonal goods. This combination of market activity and shopping is of great importance for the KiBo city center – it brings foot traffic, promotes local retail, and makes the town an attractive shopping destination.
proKIBO e.V. is the marketing association of the town of Kirchheimbolanden and the organizer of the most important city festivals: Frühlingserwachen, Maimarkt, Oktobermarkt, and Christkindlmarkt. The voluntary commitment of the association members and the cooperation with retailers, restaurateurs, and the city administration make the diversity of events possible.
