Artisan market in the historic Cistercian monastery
The "Kunst & Werk" Monastery Market is a traditional artisan market held at the Cistercian Monastery Zarrentin am Schaalsee. On the last weekend of August, the historic monastery complex transforms into a vibrant marketplace for art, enjoyment, and creativity. The market is organised by GTV Zarrentin und Umgebung e.V. on behalf of the town of Zarrentin am Schaalsee.
Approximately 90 exhibitors from across Germany showcase their skills: high-quality fashion and jewellery design, diverse ceramics, garden accessories, painting, as well as glass, wood, leather, and metal art – with the vast majority being handmade. The offerings also include garden plants, lanterns, fire pits, forged knives, soaps, floristry, and dried flowers.
Numerous food stalls cater to your culinary needs – from wild boar burgers to crêpes, panini, and bruschetta, as well as coffee specialities, cakes, and pizza. The monastery ambiance with its ancient walls lends the market a special atmosphere, setting it apart from ordinary craft markets.
Zarrentin am Schaalsee is located in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in the southwestern corner of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, on the edge of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Schaalsee. The monastery and the lake make the town an attractive destination, and the monastery market is one of the highlights in the region's event calendar.
