Craftsmanship on the Water
The Craftsmanship Cup is a sporting showcase for Wolfsburg's trades. Carpenters, electricians, bakers, painters, plumbers, auto repair shops, and many other trades each form a team, paddle in full force against the competition, and use the Allersee as an unusual stage. The format combines image management, employee motivation, and networking.
Race Progression
The boats compete in two race heats. The times from both runs determine the seeding for the finals. Distances are typically 200 meters on a straight course. Each boat is steered by a coxswain and kept in rhythm by a drummer — the synchronicity of the 16 to 20 paddlers largely determines the outcome.
Taster Training
To ensure that even inexperienced teams can compete well, the organizer offers a taster training session on the Allersee on August 23, 2026 (10 AM to 1 PM). Coxswains from the Wolfsburg Canoe Club will teach the basics — seating position, paddling technique, commands.
Atmosphere on the South Bank
The south bank of the Allersee is easily accessible and offers seating, catering, and shaded areas. Spectators can follow the races from the shore; admission is free.
In Context
The Craftsmanship Cup complements the club format of the Wolfsburg Dragon Boat Cup, which takes place one day later, also on the Allersee. Both events together make the first weekend in September the Dragon Boat Weekend in Wolfsburg.
