Late summer courtyard festival with wine tastings in rustic winegrowers' courtyards in the Wolf district of Trarbach
Wolf is one of the incorporated districts of Traben-Trarbach, located a few kilometers downstream. The formerly independent municipality has largely retained its village-like, very authentic character – with old winegrowers' courtyards, half-timbered facades, and a direct connection to the surrounding steep slopes. The Höfe-Hopping (Courtyard Hopping) utilizes precisely this ambiance to stage a courtyard festival with its very own atmosphere.
During the three festival days, the participating Wolf winegrowers open their courtyards and cellars. Visitors walk between the locations, tasting wines directly from the winegrower families, enjoying regional specialties, and experiencing the rustic inner courtyards, old presses, vaulted cellars, and open-air serving areas or barns.
Live music at selected locations adds to the ambiance. The program ranges from acoustic sets and small bands to late-summer DJ acts in the courtyards. However, the volume and atmosphere remain deliberately subdued – the Höfe-Hopping is intended as a contrasting program to the large folk and wine festivals, focusing on interaction, conversation, and enjoyment.
Those who are already familiar with the region's major wine festivals and are looking for a more authentic, smaller alternative will find the Wolfer Höfe-Hopping an ideal format. The combination of a village setting, personal contact with the winegrowers, and a relaxed late-summer atmosphere makes the event a hidden gem in the Middle Mosel calendar.
The 2026 Höfe-Hopping continues the concept of previous years. The participating courtyards in Wolf open on Friday afternoon, the weekend proceeds with a balanced daily rhythm, and Sunday features a relaxed conclusion with a family audience.
The focus is on direct contact with the winegrowers and their wines – Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Weißburgunder, Spätburgunder, and depending on the courtyard, also sparkling wines and Sekt. Regional dishes complement the offerings.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in late summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
The event thrives on its village-like, personal atmosphere and the opportunity to converse with the winegrower families.
Wolf, as a district of Traben-Trarbach, is accessible via the B 53 federal road. By train, there is a connection to Traben-Trarbach via the Moseltalbahn railway; from there, a bus runs to Wolf, or shuttle services will be provided during the festival.
The distances between the courtyards are to be covered on foot. Sturdy footwear is recommended, especially in wet weather.
Free entry to the courtyards. Wine and food are paid for on-site.
