The Wolfenbüttel District Music School is one of the largest educational institutions for artistic education in the district. With locations in Wolfenbüttel and branches in several municipalities, it offers instruction in all common instruments, singing, ballet, and early music education. Regular gala productions like "The Wizard of Oz" give students the opportunity to present their skills on a professional stage.

The Wizard of Oz on Stage

L. Frank Baum's story from 1900 is a timeless classic of children's literature and film history. The musical adaptation adopts the iconic characters – Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the mysterious Wizard of Oz – and translates them into a stage-worthy narrative with songs, dances, and musical interludes. The production is suitable for children aged six and up, as well as for adults who enjoy being transported to Baum's magical world.

Ensemble from the District

On stage are instrumentalists from the music school orchestras, choirs, ballet and dance groups, as well as solo performers. The production is developed over several months under the direction of the music school's teachers. The three performance dates at the Lessingtheater allow for all interested families and friends from the entire Wolfenbüttel district to attend.
