Wittener Kneipennacht — One Night, Many Stages

The Wittener Kneipennacht has been a firmly established highlight in Witten's event calendar for years. The concept is simple and has been successful for over a decade: on one Saturday in October, numerous pubs in Witten's city centre transform into live concert stages. With a wristband (ticket on your wrist), guests can wander from pub to pub all evening without paying admission again.

The Concept — A City as a Festival

Instead of a central festival site, the Kneipennacht uses the existing gastronomy landscape: breweries, cocktail bars, pubs, trendy bars, and live music venues become temporary concert locations. Each pub programmes its own band or DJ set — and each pub brings its own musical flavour: Rock, Pop, Indie, Soul, Acoustic, Cover Classics, Singer-Songwriters. The result is a cross-genre atmosphere typical of a city centre in the Ruhr area.

After-Show Party at WERK°STADT

The traditional finale is the after-show party at WERK°STADT — Witten's alternative cultural centre. The wristband also serves as an admission ticket here. Dancing, DJs, and sometimes live acts ensure the night goes on until the early hours.

2026 — The 14th Edition Expected

The 13th Kneipennacht took place on Saturday, 19 October 2024. The 14th edition is expected in 2026, again traditionally on a Saturday in October. The exact date and the list of participating pubs and bands will be announced in late summer 2026 via the official website stadtmarketing-witten.de.

Organiser Stadtmarketing Witten

Stadtmarketing Witten GmbH organises the Kneipennacht as an element of city centre revitalisation. The initiative is part of a whole series of city marketing events: weekly markets, summer festival, Wittener Lichternacht, Advent illumination. The Kneipennacht is the most vibrant format — and an important date for local gastronomy.

Witten an der Ruhr

Witten is located in the Ennepe-Ruhr district at the transition from the Ruhr area to the Bergisches Land. With almost 100,000 inhabitants, the city is small enough for a manageable density of pubs and large enough for a lively scene. The University of Witten/Herdecke brings additional young audiences into the city centre. The Kneipennacht benefits from this mix — bourgeois, student, intergenerational.
