Hamburg's Neighbourhood Christmas

While Rathausmarkt and Spitalerstraße are swamped with tourists in December, the Winterhuder Weihnachtstreff offers a contrast: a small, very local Hamburg neighbourhood Christmas market at Winterhuder Marktplatz, in the Hamburg-Nord district. Residents from Winterhude, Uhlenhorst, Barmbek, and Eppendorf meet here every year for a few weeks of pre-Christmas routine.

Homemade Punch and Small Selection

The concept is deliberately kept small. Stalls with mulled wine, homemade apple-cranberry punch – the market's signature drink –, bratwurst, crêpes, smoked fish, and Hamburg specialities. Alongside these, stalls offer jewellery, ceramics, fabric toys, and Nordic crafts. A small stage provides live music on weekends – nothing spectacular, but exactly the right mix.

Six Weeks of Pre-Christmas Routine

The market traditionally runs from mid-November until December 23rd. In 2025, it was open from November 13th to December 23rd – similar dates are expected for 2026. With its short duration and neighbourhood character, the Weihnachtstreff is one of Hamburg's most authentic Advent events.
