Guided wine hikes through the Elbling vineyards of the southern Moselle — June 27 and August 15, 2026
The southern Moselle between Konz and the Luxembourg border is a wine landscape little known in Germany. Here, Riesling does not dominate, but rather Elbling — a very old grape variety, already cultivated by the Romans, which still shapes the profile of the Obermosel today. The guided wine hikes in 2026 will take participants on an exploration tour through this special wine-growing area between Palzem and Wincheringen — a region that forms a bridge to Luxembourg culturally, geographically, and enologically.
The two dates in June and August capture different phases. The June 27 date leads through the high summer phase with full vegetation, blooming vineyards, and the typical freshness of the Obermosel. The August 15 date shows the slopes just before ripeness — the grapes are already well-developed, and the harvest will take place in the following weeks. Both dates start at 11 a.m. and are designed as guided half-day tours.
The focus of the tasting is on Elbling wines: light, crisp, fresh wines with low alcohol content, which were historically often used for sparkling wine. In addition, the participating vintners also present Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, and Rivaner, which complement the modern range of varieties in the Obermosel. The tastings at the stations convey not only the taste but also the history and style of this special wine region.
Palzem and Wincheringen are located in the Trier-Saarburg district and belong to the Saar-Obermosel tourism region. The region combines rolling vineyards with views of the Luxembourgish Moselle side, small villages, and a characteristic German-Luxembourgish cultural landscape. The Saar-Obermosel Tourist Information coordinates registration and provides information about the region's overall event program.
Both dates follow the same concept: meeting point in Palzem at 11 a.m., guided hike through the Obermosel vineyards with tasting stations, and a convivial conclusion in the early afternoon.
The exact routes and participating wineries will be communicated in advance via the Saar-Obermosel Tourist Information. Adjustments due to weather conditions are possible.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
