Autumnal festival on the castle above the Mosel
The Wildburg in Treis-Karden is a reconstructed castle complex high above the Mosel village. Originally built in the Middle Ages, later fell into disrepair, and reconstructed in the 20th century with great volunteer commitment by the Förderverein Wildburg-Treis, the castle now serves as a wedding and event venue as well as the setting for several cultural events throughout the year. “Wein & Wild” is the most important of these and is among the most beautiful autumn wine festivals in the entire Untermosel region.
The concept combines three worlds: Mosel wine as a regional flagship, game from the surrounding Hunsrück and Eifel forests as a seasonal autumn delicacy, and castle culture as an atmospheric setting. This mix gives the event its unmistakable character and makes it a must-attend for Mosel lovers, game connoisseurs, and castle enthusiasts.
The opening at 12:00 PM is ceremoniously accompanied by the reigning wine queens of the region (Mosel Wine Queen and wine princesses from neighboring wine villages) and by hunting horn blowers. Local vintners offer their current Rieslings, Pinot Noirs, and autumnal specialties, accompanied by game dishes—from game goulash to roast venison to game salami and autumnal side dishes. Coffee and cake round off the culinary offerings.
Musically, the duo C&S Acoustic provides atmospheric live music from 2:00 PM. The hunting horn ensemble “Wilde Endert” and the younger ensemble “Rolling Forest School” contribute to the autumnal festive atmosphere with traditional hunting music. Guided castle tours at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM explain the history and architecture of the Wildburg. Special hands-on activities and a small program are offered for children.
“Wein & Wild” 2026 takes place on Sunday, September 27. It opens at 12:00 PM with the region's wine queens and hunting horn blowers. The event runs throughout the afternoon into the early evening.
