Wincheringen Cellar Days

The Wincheringen Cellar Days are among the most traditional wine events in the Obermosel – that part of the Mosel region often somewhat in the shadow of the Mittel- and Niedermosel, known for its own characteristics and, above all, for the rare Elbling, one of the oldest grape varieties cultivated in Central Europe. From May 22 to 25, 2026, six Wincheringen family wineries will open their cellars and courtyards for a four-day wine and social festival.

The wineries involved are Backendorf, Gries, Thiel, Schneider, Hild, and Welter. Each of them brings its own stylistic accents in the vinification of Elbling as well as other grape varieties of the region (Riesling, Weißburgunder, and Grauburgunder). Visitors can wander from cellar to cellar, talk directly with the vintners, and gain a comprehensive insight into the oenological profile of Wincheringen over four days.

The opening hours are chosen to accommodate both working people on the weekend and day-trippers: Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m., Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. each day. The program is complemented by a wine quiz with prizes, a cake counter on Sunday, and a shuttle bus organized by the youth of the volunteer fire department, ensuring safe and responsible travel between the cellars. Live music or DJ sets will be played in several cellars.

Wincheringen is located in the Trier-Saarburg district directly on the Mosel River, opposite the Luxembourg border. Its location between Saarburg and Remich makes the festival easily accessible for visitors from Luxembourg as well. Admission is free.
