Two-day pottery and ceramics market by the Park Pond — May 2nd and 3rd, 2026
The West Saxon Pottery Market in Crimmitschau-Gablenz has been held since 1993 and is one of Saxony's best-known and most traditional pottery markets. The organizer is the city of Crimmitschau in cooperation with local associations. The 33rd edition will take place on the first May weekend of 2026 — Saturday, May 2nd, and Sunday, May 3rd. The festival grounds at the Park Pond Gablenz, Lauenhainer Weg 6, offer an extraordinary natural setting: meadows around a small pond, old trees, pavilions — a perfect stage for ceramics in the open air.
At the market stalls, around 50 selected ceramic artists and potters from all over Germany will present their work — from classic functional ceramics (bowls, cups, vases) to artistic unique pieces, sculptures, and wall objects, as well as garden and outdoor ceramics. The variety of clay types and firing techniques — stoneware, earthenware, porcelain, Raku, salt firing, wood firing — makes the market a showcase of current German ceramic art. Several exhibitors will demonstrate potter's wheel techniques live, giving visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the craft.
Musical entertainment — primarily acoustic live acts, folk, blues, jazz — will accompany the market throughout both days. Regional gastronomy with Saxon specialties will provide refreshments; a dedicated organic and cake café complements the offerings. The Park Pond area invites families to spend extended time there — many visitors combine the market with a walk through the park or a picnic on the bank. Admission is €3 per person; children and young people up to 16 years old have free admission.
Crimmitschau is a small town in West Saxony in the Zwickau district (Saxony), not far from Zwickau and Werdau, on the border with Thuringia. The district of Gablenz is located on the outskirts of the town and is nestled in a landscape of small meadows and ponds — characterized by former textile industry and agriculture. The pottery market has utilized this natural backdrop for over three decades and has established itself as a regional spring highlight. Visitors come from the entire greater Zwickau-Chemnitz-Plauen area, as well as from Thuringia and Bavaria.
