23rd Wesseling City Festival & 30th Wessinale — the big July weekend on the Rhine

When Wesseling celebrates its City Festival and its Wessinale Art Mile together, it's the largest continuous event of the Wesseling year. On the weekend of July 5th and 6th, 2026 (Saturday and Sunday), the Rhine city combines an open-air concert evening on Saturday with a family and art weekend on Sunday — two very different event characters under one weekend roof. Free admission.

Saturday, July 5th — Open-Air Concert in the Rheinpark

The evening belongs to live music. Starting at 6 PM, the Rheinpark at the NATO ramp transforms into an open-air concert arena with top Rhineland bands:

  • Chanterella — established Rhineland cover band and original compositions band with Schlager and pop repertoire
  • Scharmöör — Kölsch rock and Rhine folk, one of the region's sought-after live bands
  • Klüngelköpp — Carnival and party song stars from Cologne, regularly featured at major carnival galas and city festivals

The mix is clear: a concert evening offering the classic Rhineland city festival sound (cover pop, Kölsch rock, carnival songs) at a high-quality open-air level. Three hours of stage program against the Rhine backdrop, with food and drink stands.

Sunday, July 6th — Wessinale Art Mile + Family Program

Sunday is dedicated to families, clubs, and art, from 11 AM to 6 PM. Two parallel program streams:

Westenergie Stage

On the central Westenergie Stage, the Domstürmer (Kölsch rock-pop, one of the most famous carnival bands) will perform, along with other regional acts. Club presentations, school performances, and dance groups will complement the program.

30th Wessinale on Ruttmanns Wiese

For 30 years, the Wessinale has been Wesseling's Art Mile — an open art market on Ruttmanns Wiese where regional artists sell their work directly. Featured are:

  • Painting — oil, acrylic, watercolor, classic and modern
  • Sculpture — stone, bronze, wood, metal
  • Photography — landscape, portrait, reportage
  • Jewelry — handmade, often in small editions
  • Ceramics — functional ware and sculptural objects

The 30th anniversary in 2026 is a special date — the Wessinale is one of the oldest regular art fairs in the Rhineland's hinterland and has made Wesseling known as an art location beyond regional borders.

City Festival and Wessinale — A Deliberate Dual Strategy

The combination has been the core brand for years: the classic city festival (music, culinary delights, club mile, carnival atmosphere) attracts the general public, while the Wessinale (sophisticated regional art to touch and buy) draws the culturally interested audience from Cologne, Bonn, and the Rhein-Erft district. Both programs enrich each other — city festival visitors discover art, art visitors enjoy the Rhineland summer evening.

Wesseling — Rhine City South of Cologne

The city of Wesseling, with its approximately 36,000 inhabitants, is located on the Rhine between Cologne and Bonn and belongs to the Rhein-Erft district. It is both an industrial city (Shell refinery, BP, formerly Wesseling-Klingen-Industrie) and a residential city in Cologne's commuter belt. Worth seeing are the St. Andreas Church, the Rheinpark with its beach areas, the historic town center of Berzdorf, and the Werkssiedlung Eichholz housing estate. With the City Festival and Wessinale, Wesseling has a dual cultural brand format that is standard for city marketing.
