Open-air concert in the Rheinpark with Chanterella, Scharmöör, and Klüngelköpp — plus 30th Art Mile on Ruttmanns Wiese
When Wesseling celebrates its City Festival and its Wessinale Art Mile together, it's the largest continuous event of the Wesseling year. On the weekend of July 5th and 6th, 2026 (Saturday and Sunday), the Rhine city combines an open-air concert evening on Saturday with a family and art weekend on Sunday — two very different event characters under one weekend roof. Free admission.
The evening belongs to live music. Starting at 6 PM, the Rheinpark at the NATO ramp transforms into an open-air concert arena with top Rhineland bands:
The mix is clear: a concert evening offering the classic Rhineland city festival sound (cover pop, Kölsch rock, carnival songs) at a high-quality open-air level. Three hours of stage program against the Rhine backdrop, with food and drink stands.
Sunday is dedicated to families, clubs, and art, from 11 AM to 6 PM. Two parallel program streams:
On the central Westenergie Stage, the Domstürmer (Kölsch rock-pop, one of the most famous carnival bands) will perform, along with other regional acts. Club presentations, school performances, and dance groups will complement the program.
For 30 years, the Wessinale has been Wesseling's Art Mile — an open art market on Ruttmanns Wiese where regional artists sell their work directly. Featured are:
The 30th anniversary in 2026 is a special date — the Wessinale is one of the oldest regular art fairs in the Rhineland's hinterland and has made Wesseling known as an art location beyond regional borders.
The combination has been the core brand for years: the classic city festival (music, culinary delights, club mile, carnival atmosphere) attracts the general public, while the Wessinale (sophisticated regional art to touch and buy) draws the culturally interested audience from Cologne, Bonn, and the Rhein-Erft district. Both programs enrich each other — city festival visitors discover art, art visitors enjoy the Rhineland summer evening.
The city of Wesseling, with its approximately 36,000 inhabitants, is located on the Rhine between Cologne and Bonn and belongs to the Rhein-Erft district. It is both an industrial city (Shell refinery, BP, formerly Wesseling-Klingen-Industrie) and a residential city in Cologne's commuter belt. Worth seeing are the St. Andreas Church, the Rheinpark with its beach areas, the historic town center of Berzdorf, and the Werkssiedlung Eichholz housing estate. With the City Festival and Wessinale, Wesseling has a dual cultural brand format that is standard for city marketing.
The 23rd edition of the City Festival meets the anniversary Wessinale: 30 years of Wesseling Art Fair. Saturday is concert evening, Sunday is family and art day. Three top Rhineland bands on Saturday, the Domstürmer and 30 years of regional artists on Sunday. First weekend in July = Wesseling's biggest summer weekend.
Free admission. Food €5-15, art according to price list of individual artists (paintings from approx. €50, sculptures variable).
By train: S-Bahn S23 (Cologne-Bonn) Wesseling station, then walk approx. 10 minutes towards the Rhine. By car: A555 (Cologne-Bonn) Wesseling exit, follow signs for Rheinpark / Stadtfest. Park-and-Ride via the train station is recommended — heavily frequented on festival weekends.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and art at the daily prices of the exhibitors or artists.
For those who want to experience both days, stay at the Wesselinger Rheinpark-Hotel or in Cologne-Bonn (15 min). Sunday morning is the most pleasant time for the Wessinale — good conversations with artists, less crowds. Saturday evening is concert atmosphere — Klüngelköpp as the finale guarantee an exuberant mood.
