About Weinmarkt Neumarkt

From October 8 to 18, 2026, the Cologne Neumarkt transforms into an eleven-day open-air wine emporium: The Weinmarkt auf dem Neumarkt — Herbst-Edition (Wine Market on the Neumarkt — Autumn Edition) brings German and international winemakers to the center of Cologne. Wooden pavilions, Riesling next to Spätburgunder, Federweißer from the first harvests, accompanied by cheese, Flammkuchen, and small tapas. Organized by Joseph Nieke UG, the autumn edition is the counterpart to the summer Cologne Wine Week (June) — same location, calmer pace, more autumnal selection. Free admission, consumption according to exhibitors' price lists.

Autumn Wine on the Neumarkt

The Neumarkt is one of the central squares in downtown Cologne — located directly between Domplatte and Schildergasse, nestled between St. Aposteln, the Bayenturm area, and the shop windows of major fashion brands. While it's a hotspot for events during the summer's Cologne Wine Week, in autumn it becomes the stage for the Weinmarkt auf dem Neumarkt — Herbst-Edition. From October 8 to 18, 2026, the exhibitors' wooden pavilions will be set up here for eleven days, turning Cologne into an extended harvest celebration living room.

What Distinguishes the Autumn Market from the Summer Market

While the Cologne Wine Week in June tends to have the classic wine tasting character of a multi-day major event, the autumn edition is calmer and more atmospheric: The days get shorter, the mood more autumnal, and a glass of wine warms the throat. Here, you'll find Federweißer from the fresh 2026 harvests, young red wines, apple wines, and familiar classics. The selection of winemakers varies from edition to edition — typically wineries from Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Nahe, and Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, with occasional outliers from Franken, Baden, or abroad.

More Than Just Wine — Gastronomy on the Square

In addition to the wine pavilions, there are cheeses, Flammkuchen, small tapas stands, and depending on the mix of exhibitors, sausages, bread, and sweet specialties — ensuring that wine drinking is not done on an empty stomach. Standing tables and a few seats invite you to linger; in cooler weather, standing consumption with a thick jacket is recommended.

Free Admission — Consumption According to Exhibitor Prices

Access to the market is free. Wines are sold by the glass (typically €3–6 per glass, depending on origin and quality), food portions between €4 and €9. Those who wish to take wine home by the bottle can purchase directly from the exhibitors — direct contact with the winemaker is one of the market's charms.

Organizer: Joseph Nieke UG

Behind the event is Joseph Nieke UG, which has been curating wine events in the Cologne region for years. The selection of exhibitors is carefully planned — not a colorful market mix, but a curation that focuses on quality and regional diversity. Those interested in wine fairs rather than markets are also advised to check out KölnWein Herbst 2026 at the Sartory Sälen (October 10/11) — a different organizer structure, a different format.

Neumarkt as an Event Location

The Neumarkt has character as a Cologne event venue: Located in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city center, with a subway connection directly under the square (lines 1, 3, 4, 12, 16, 18), surrounded by restaurants, shopping, and cultural attractions. Combining the market with a stroll allows you to reach Schildergasse, the Cathedral, and Hohe Straße within a few minutes' walk — a perfect stop on a Cologne city tour.

Weinmarkt Neumarkt — edition 2026

The autumn edition of the wine market on Cologne's Neumarkt runs from October 8 to 18, 2026. Wooden pavilions with German and international winemakers, Federweißer from the current harvests, cheese, Flammkuchen, and tapas. Free admission. Organizer: Joseph Nieke UG.

The 2026 autumn edition continues the established format: Wineries from Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Nahe, and Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, complemented by cheese and Flammkuchen. Dates derived from the market announcements for the major Cologne squares in 2026.
