The Neumarkt is one of the central squares in downtown Cologne — located directly between Domplatte and Schildergasse, nestled between St. Aposteln, the Bayenturm area, and the shop windows of major fashion brands. While it's a hotspot for events during the summer's Cologne Wine Week, in autumn it becomes the stage for the Weinmarkt auf dem Neumarkt — Herbst-Edition. From October 8 to 18, 2026, the exhibitors' wooden pavilions will be set up here for eleven days, turning Cologne into an extended harvest celebration living room.

What Distinguishes the Autumn Market from the Summer Market

While the Cologne Wine Week in June tends to have the classic wine tasting character of a multi-day major event, the autumn edition is calmer and more atmospheric: The days get shorter, the mood more autumnal, and a glass of wine warms the throat. Here, you'll find Federweißer from the fresh 2026 harvests, young red wines, apple wines, and familiar classics. The selection of winemakers varies from edition to edition — typically wineries from Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Nahe, and Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, with occasional outliers from Franken, Baden, or abroad.

More Than Just Wine — Gastronomy on the Square

In addition to the wine pavilions, there are cheeses, Flammkuchen, small tapas stands, and depending on the mix of exhibitors, sausages, bread, and sweet specialties — ensuring that wine drinking is not done on an empty stomach. Standing tables and a few seats invite you to linger; in cooler weather, standing consumption with a thick jacket is recommended.

Access to the market is free. Wines are sold by the glass (typically €3–6 per glass, depending on origin and quality), food portions between €4 and €9. Those who wish to take wine home by the bottle can purchase directly from the exhibitors — direct contact with the winemaker is one of the market's charms.
