Wine, Hiking and Enjoyment on the Moselsteig
The Weinlagenfest Senheim-Mesenich breaks away from the classic form of a Moselle wine festival. Instead of a festival tent and stage, the event focuses on the hiking experience in the vineyards themselves: the stands of the participating vintners are set up along the Moselsteig – one of Germany's most beautiful hiking trails – so that the tasting takes place where the wine is produced.
The route between Senheim and Mesenich leads through some of the most famous steep slopes of the Untermosel. Slate, sun exposure, and the microclimate of the Moselle loop create ideal conditions for mineralic Rieslings and powerful Pinot Noirs. Those who wander through the vines with a glass in hand experience these slopes not as an abstract concept, but as an immediate sensory experience.
The participating vintners from Senheim and Mesenich each present a selection of their current wines at their stands – from light summer wines and classic late harvests to mature Burgundy wines. The tasting is accompanied by culinary offerings: vintner's snacks, tarte flambée, regional cheeses, and small warm dishes. Acoustic music groups provide atmospheric accompaniment at several stations.
The Weinlagenfest is an ideal event for active connoisseurs. Those who combine wine, nature, and hiking will find a rare symbiosis here. Sturdy footwear and some stamina are recommended – the steep slopes require surefootedness but reward with views that you would never experience in a classic festival tent.
The Weinlagenfest 2026 will take place from Friday, May 8th, to Sunday, May 10th. The tasting stands will be set up along the Moselsteig between Senheim and Mesenich. Starting and ending points are in both villages. The festival glass and tasting tokens will be issued at the starting points.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Highlights: Wine tasting directly in the steep slopes on the Moselsteig, Rieslings and Pinot Noirs from Senheim and Mesenich, hiking and enjoyment in combination, culinary accompaniment in the vineyard sites, Moselle panorama of the Moselle loop, shuttle service between the two village centers.
Festival glass with tasting tokens required, available at the starting points in Senheim and Mesenich.
Getting there: By car via the B49; parking available in Senheim and Mesenich. By train to Cochem or Bullay, then by bus.
Admission: Festival glass with tasting tokens required (available at the starting points).
Tip: Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. A shuttle service connects the two village centers, so the route doesn't have to be walked twice.
