Grand wine and courtyard festival in the Bergzabern twin village with winegrowers' courtyards, carousel, shooting gallery, and candy stall on the first weekend of August
The wine festival in the Kapellen-Drusweiler Winzerhöfe (winegrowers' courtyards) is the largest summer festival in the twin village in Southern Palatinate. From Friday, July 31, 2026, to Monday, August 3, 2026, local winegrowers will open their courtyards, serve their wines, and offer Palatinate specialties. In parallel, the main street transforms into a funfair with a carousel, shooting gallery, and candy stall.
The dual format of courtyard festival + funfair makes the wine festival a family event with two faces: during the day, wine, conversations, and culinary Palatinate tradition in the courtyards; in parallel, a folk festival atmosphere with rides and candy offerings on the street. Kapellen-Drusweiler is located in the heart of the Southern Palatinate Wine Route in the Bergzabern region.
The local wineries open their courtyards for the four festival days. In the historic inner courtyards, cellars, and gardens, the winegrowers serve their wines directly at the place of cultivation and vinification. Each courtyard designs its own presentation – with seating areas, food stalls, small stages, or DJ sets. This diversity distinguishes the format from a classic marquee wine festival.
Parallel to the courtyard celebrations, the main street transforms into a funfair. A carousel for the younger visitors, a shooting gallery for the adults, a candy stall with gingerbread hearts, Magenbrot (a type of gingerbread), and candied almonds. This folk festival component makes the wine festival in the Winzerhöfe a family event and attracts visitors from the entire Bergzabern region.
The participating wineries present the full spectrum of Southern Palatinate viticulture: dry Rieslings, white and Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Rosé, sparkling wine. Palatinate specialties – Saumagen (pig's stomach stuffed with meat and herbs), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Flammkuchen (a thin-crust tart), Palatinate potato soup – complement the wine tasting.
Kapellen-Drusweiler is a twin village, formed from the merger of the two wine villages of Kapellen and Drusweiler. The municipality belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Bad Bergzabern and is a stop for many wine hikers on the Southern Palatinate Wine Route. In addition to the major wine festival on the first weekend of August, the village also celebrates the Keschdebuschfest (chestnut festival) in June and several smaller events throughout the year.
