Traditional club wine festival of MGV 1858 Klingenmünster on the last weekend of August, supplemented by a farmers' market on Sunday
The men's choir MGV 1858 Klingenmünster, one of the oldest singing clubs on the Südliche Weinstraße, has been hosting its traditional wine festival on the last weekend of August for decades. The venue – the club courtyard opposite the Catholic Church of St. Michael in Stiftstraße – is located in the historic monastery district of Klingenmünster and immediately conveys a special atmosphere.
The wines served are from Klingenmünster's wineries: dry Rieslings from the slopes below Burg Landeck, white and Pinot Gris, Dornfelder and Pinot Noir, as well as the first Federweißer (new wine) of the season on warm late summer days. The festival focuses on uncomplicated Schoppen (wine by the glass) service at fair prices – Palatinate wine culture without pomp.
The menu is classic Palatinate: Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach) with sauerkraut, Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Bratwurst with sauerkraut, Flammkuchen (tarte flambée), Wurstsalat (sausage salad), and hearty snacks. The members of the MGV themselves work at the counter, grill, and buffet – the proceeds go to the club's activities and the maintenance of the historic clubhouse.
On Sunday morning, the festival is expanded with a farmers' market that puts regional producers at the center. Market stalls line the courtyard and the adjacent street, offering a wide selection of products from the Palatinate and the Bergzabern region – ideal for a relaxed Sunday stroll before lunch.
The MGV wine festival is considered a hidden gem alongside the region's major wine festivals. For regulars, it's a fixed date in the August calendar; new visitors appreciate the family-friendly charm, the proximity to the vintners, and the unadulterated Palatinate flair far from tourist crowds.
The weekend of August 29 to 31, 2026, marks the last weekend of August and thus the traditional date for the MGV wine festival. The opening is on Saturday afternoon with the tapping of the first barrel by the board of the men's choir. The start is usually accompanied by a short club program with choir performance, after which the open wine service begins.
Sunday is dedicated to the farmers' market: From the morning onwards, the stalls of regional producers line the courtyard and the adjacent street. Between tasting the market products and enjoying the Palatinate lunch from the club kitchen, a relaxed family Sunday unfolds in the monastery district of Klingenmünster.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
