Traditional start of the Ahr wine festival season in the wine village of Mayschoß
The Weinblütenfest is considered the traditional start of the wine festival season on the Ahr. While the Spätburgunder and Riesling vines bloom on the steep slopes around Mayschoß, the vintners of the village present their current vintages as well as their bottle-fermented sparkling wines. Mayschoß, with its wine cooperative, which is considered one of the oldest wine cooperatives in the world, is one of the most historic wine-growing villages in the valley.
Unlike the major wine festivals in the region, the Weinblütenfest retains the character of a real village festival. The stalls are located around the town center, in the shade of the Saffenburg and near the famous vineyard paths. Families, hikers, cyclists, and regular guests mingle at the long tables, while regional bands provide the musical accompaniment.
The focus is on the wines of the Mayschoß vintners: dry Spätburgunder, fruity Frühburgunder, mineral Rieslings, and aged sparkling wines. The tastings are accompanied by regional cuisine such as Flammkuchen, Reibekuchen, Winzervesper (vintner's snack), and specialties from the Eifel-Ahr region. The culinary diversity is one of the hallmarks of the festival.
The Weinblütenfest can be ideally combined with a hike on the Rotweinwanderweg (Red Wine Hiking Trail) or the AhrSteig. Those who arrive on the weekend can combine the festival with an overnight stay in one of the many guesthouses in the village and a visit to the Saffenburg castle ruins.
The festival unfolds along the town center and in several squares around the Saffenburg. During the day, families and hikers stroll through the stalls, and in the evening, the village fills with connoisseurs who end their day with a glass of Spätburgunder after a tour of the Rotweinwanderweg.
The exact stage and band program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
