A Young Culinary Event in the Western Ruhr Area
The Mülheim Wine Festival is one of the newest additions to the event calendar of the Ruhr area. The premiere took place in 2025, with over 10,000 visitors over four days – a success that directly led to the second edition in 2026. The venue is the Rathausmarkt in the middle of Mülheim's city center – a central square in front of the historic town hall, directly at the tram stop.
Date 2026: Expected June 26–29
The 2nd Mülheim Wine Festival edition is announced for the weekend from Friday, June 26, to Sunday, June 29, 2026 (opening Thursday, June 25, following the premiere pattern). The dates are based on the 2025 premiere, which took place in the same week of June. Confirmation via muelheimer-weinfest.de is recommended once the final announcement is made.
Expected Opening Hours
Following the premiere schedule 2025:
- Thursday: 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM (Opening)
- Friday: 1:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Saturday: 1:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Sunday: 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM (Family Brunch + Early Bird)
Wine Selection: German and European
The vintner selection focuses on a higher quality level – no mass-produced wines, but often family businesses with limited quantities:
- Mosel: Riesling Classic, Dry Spätlese
- Pfalz: Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cuvées
- Rheinhessen: Silvaner, Pinot Gris, modern natural wines
- Baden: Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc
- Tuscany (Italy): Chianti Classico, Vermentino, Sangiovese
- Bordeaux (France): Cabernet Cuvées, Merlot
- Rioja (Spain): Tempranillo, Garnacha
Culinary Accompaniments
To complement the wine:
- Wood-fired tarte flambée
- Bruschetta and antipasti variations
- Cheese and cold cut platters
- Tapas boards
- Mediterranean bowls, vegetarian and vegan
- Sweets: Crêpes, tiramisu, sorbet
Live Music
Both evenings will be accompanied by live music – acoustic bands, jazz trios, singer-songwriters, occasionally a cocktail big band. Deliberately quieter than a classic city festival, more bistro than disco atmosphere. The music enhances without overwhelming conversations.
Location: Rathausmarkt Central
The Rathausmarkt is one of Mülheim's central squares, directly in front of the historic town hall and with perfect public transport connections – the "Rathausmarkt" tram stop is directly at the festival grounds. Those arriving from Essen, Duisburg, Oberhausen, or Düsseldorf can get there in 15–25 minutes by S-Bahn and bus.
Mülheim an der Ruhr – Garden City in the Ruhr Area
Mülheim an der Ruhr has around 170,000 inhabitants and is one of the major cities in the Ruhr area. Its location on the Ruhr River – with the Wasserbahnhof, Broich Castle, and extensive green spaces – makes Mülheim one of the most beautiful cities in the Ruhr area. The Mülheim Wine Festival is one of the events that shape the city's image beyond industry and mining.
