Summer wine and sparkling wine festival at the Kurpfalzblick viewpoint with a wide panorama over the Rhine plain and Palatinate sparkling wines
Leaving Herxheim am Berg and climbing the hill above the village leads to the Kurpfalzblick — a viewpoint from which the entire northern Vorderpfalz unfolds. In the foreground, the vineyards; behind them, the Palatinate villages; in the middle ground, the Rhine plain; on the horizon, the Odenwald forest. On clear days, the view extends south to the Black Forest. It is precisely here — in one of the most beautiful spots in the Palatinate — that the Wein- und Sektsymposium takes place annually in July.
Palatinate Sekt (sparkling wine) is one of the underestimated gems of German sparkling wine culture. Many Palatinate vintners produce Sekt from traditional bottle fermentation alongside their still wines — mostly from Riesling, Pinot varieties, or Cuvées. The Wein- und Sektsymposium provides this aspect of Palatinate wine culture the stage it deserves: Several Palatinate Sekt producers and Herxheim's vintners present their Sekte and sparkling wines — from light Brut styles to complex Reserve Sekte.
Alongside the Sekte, the Herxheim vintners also naturally offer their still wines — Rieslings from the Kirchenstück, Honigsack, and Himmelreich vineyards, Pinot Blanc, Rosé wines, Pinot Noir. Palatinate specialties at the food stalls — Saumagen, Bratwurst, Flammkuchen, hearty tartes — complete the offering. But the real star of the evening is the sunset: With every glass, the sun sinks a little lower, and the vines are bathed in golden light.
The Wein- und Sektsymposium has been nominated multiple times for the title of Prettiest Wine Festival in the Palatinate — a competition where visitors and a jury honor the most atmospheric and well-kept Palatinate wine festivals. The unique setting, the focused concept, and the Palatinate conviviality make Herxheim am Berg a strong contender.
The 2026 edition follows the proven format: three days of festivities at the Kurpfalzblick, focusing on Palatinate Sekt and the wines of Herxheim's vintners, Palatinate specialties, and live music in the evenings. The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in early summer.
The structure follows the established cornerstones of previous years: Opening on Friday evening with a sunset tasting, full operation on Saturday with the main stage program, a morning pint and family activities on Sunday.
