About Wein-Höfefest Neumagen-Dhron

The Neumagen-Dhron Wein-Höfefest is one of the most traditional Mosel courtyard festivals and leads through Germany's oldest wine village. In the village center, the Neumagen wine families open their courtyards, vinotheques, and vaulted cellars. A signposted route connects the stations, with each courtyard offering its own Riesling and Burgundy wines, accompanied by Mosellan specialties. The focus is on wines from the Neumagen and Dhron vineyards such as Rosengärtchen, Hofberg, Großer Hengelberg, Laudamusberg, and Engelgrube. A highlight is the historical atmosphere of the village with its famous Roman ship reconstruction "Stella Noviomagi" – the symbol of Neumagen's Roman heritage.

Germany's Oldest Wine Village

Neumagen-Dhron claims the title of Germany's oldest wine village. This is based on the famous discovery of the Neumagen wine ship, a Roman tombstone from the 3rd century depicting a wine transport ship, which is exhibited in its original form at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Trier. A seaworthy reconstruction, the "Stella Noviomagi," is moored on the banks of the Moselle and can be visited and booked. The Wein-Höfefest takes place against this very backdrop of Roman viticultural tradition.

Courtyards Instead of a Festival Tent

Unlike a classic wine festival with a central tent, the Wein-Höfefest opts for a decentralized format: the Neumagen and Dhron wine families open their own courtyards and cellars. With a festival glass in hand, visitors stroll from courtyard to courtyard, with each producer presenting their own wines in the atmosphere of a family business. This creates a much more intimate tasting experience than on a large festival mile – and allows for direct conversation with the vintner.

Riesling from the Middle Moselle

The focus is on Rieslings from the Neumagener Rosengärtchen, Großer Hengelberg, Laudamusberg, Engelgrube, and Hofberg vineyards, as well as the Dhroner Hofberg vineyards. Burgundy varieties and Moselle sparkling wines complement the offering. Mosellan cuisine – tarte flambée, game dishes, cheese specialties, Mosel bratwurst – provides the culinary foundation, often with each courtyard offering its own specialty.

Highlight of the Moselle Wine Weeks in September

The Wein-Höfefest is part of the Moselle Wine Weeks and one of the highlights of the September calendar on the Middle Moselle. Those planning a weekend trip should book accommodation well in advance and plan a visit to the Stella Noviomagi on the Moselle riverbank.
