Late summer wine festival on the Schlossplatz in front of the Kurmainzische Schloss — Top Tauberfranken wines, Federweißer, and live music
"Wein am Schloss" is one of the most atmospheric wine festivals in the Main-Tauber district. The venue is the Schlossplatz in front of the Kurmainzische Schloss in Tauberbischofsheim — a historic ensemble of castle, castle tower, and half-timbered houses, providing a particularly atmospheric backdrop for a late summer wine festival. The event traditionally takes place on the last weekend of the Baden-Württemberg summer holidays.
Tauberbischofsheim lies at the transition between the Baden Tauber Valley and Franconian wine country — the Tauberfranken region is an independent sub-region of viticulture specializing in Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Bacchus, Schwarzriesling, and Tauberschwarz (a regional variety). At the wine festival, selected top regional wines and the freshly fermented Federweißer (new wine) from the current harvest will be served — the festival's connection to the immediate harvest in September gives it its characteristic charm.
In addition to the wines, regional restaurateurs offer a wide range of culinary options: from the classic Tauberfranken snack plate to Federweißer cake and warm late summer dishes. The musical accompaniment is stylish and atmospheric — not folk festival volume, but live music that suits relaxed enjoyment: acoustic bands, jazz combos, singer-songwriters.
Tauberbischofsheim (also abbreviated as "TBB") is the district capital of the Main-Tauber district with around 13,000 inhabitants. For centuries, the town was the seat of an Electorate of Mainz office — the Kurmainzische Schloss with its distinctive castle tower is the landmark and today houses the Tauberfränkisches Landschaftsmuseum (Regional Museum of Tauberfranken). The Schlossplatz in front of it is the natural event center of the town. The festival adapts to the setting: stylish, regional, without mass tourism.
The 2026 edition continues the proven format of two days of wine service on the Schlossplatz in front of the Kurmainzische Schloss. The program opens at noon and runs until late in the evening — the lighting mood at the castle tower as the sun sets gives the festival its characteristic charm. Live music stylishly accompanies both evenings in the background — no stage show, but an atmosphere that invites tasting and lingering.
