Horchheim as an Independent District

Worms-Horchheim is located in the southern part of the city and is one of the districts with a particularly strong identity. The Horchheim Traditionsverein (Customs Association), the parish, the marksmen, and numerous other associations contribute to an active district life. The annual Weihnachtsmarkt on the 1st Advent is an expression of this association culture and an important social meeting point during the pre-Christmas period.

The Bürgerhausvorplatz as a Festival Venue

The venue is the Bürgerhausvorplatz in the center of Horchheim – a manageable square that allows for the intimate atmosphere of a district market. Stalls will be set up, a mulled wine stand and food stalls will provide culinary catering, and a small stage will be the venue for musical contributions from Horchheim associations. The community hall itself can be used as a covered space in case of bad weather.

Association Stalls and Amateur Artists

The stalls are run by Horchheim associations: Traditionsverein, parish, sports clubs, marksmen, cultural association. Each association typically sells food, drinks, or small gifts and uses the proceeds for their activities. In addition, Horchheim amateur artists exhibit their works – watercolors, oil paintings, photographs, handmade ceramics, wood carvings, knitted textiles.

A District Festival with a Family Atmosphere

Compared to the large Worms Christmas market in the city center, the Horchheim market is a deliberately small-scale alternative: people know each other here, neighbors meet here, the atmosphere is village-like and familial. For many Horchheim residents, visiting their own Weihnachtsmarkt is an important Advent ritual that strengthens their district identity.

Advent Season in the Worms Districts

The Horchheimer Weihnachtsmarkt on the 1st Advent marks the start of a series of district-specific pre-Christmas events in the Worms districts, which will later be supplemented by markets in Herrnsheim and other districts.
