Three-day Christmas market in the Epe pedestrian zone — mulled wine, stalls, and a cozy atmosphere
The Gronau-Epe Christmas market is a fixture on the Westmünsterland Advent calendar. In 2026, the market runs from December 4th to 6th in the Epe pedestrian zone around Merschstraße and Kirchplatz. Three days of Advent atmosphere in the Epe district of Gronau (Westf.) — supported by the city's Stadtmarketing and Touristinfo.
The Epe pedestrian zone is transformed into an Advent setting with wooden stalls. The typical offerings:
Local clubs and businesses participate with their own stands — the market also serves as a platform for volunteer initiatives from Epe and Gronau.
A special program is offered for families: Fairy tale hours (often featuring stories from the rectory or regional legends), craft activities for children, performances by local choirs and music associations, and usually a visit from St. Nicholas with small gifts for the children. The exact program highlights will be published on gronau-inside.de shortly before the market opens.
On Sunday, December 6th, there will be Sunday shopping — the shops in Epe will be open, complementing the Christmas market offerings with special promotions and Advent deals.
The district of Epe is located directly on the Dutch border and, with around 13,000 inhabitants, is the second-largest district of Gronau (Westf.). The city of Gronau belongs to the Borken district in the Westmünsterland region of North Rhine-Westphalia. Historically, Epe was shaped for a long time by the textile industry and the underground salt deposits (oil and gas extraction). Today, Epe is a vibrant residential area with its own pedestrian zone, its own church (St. Agatha), and its own local life.
The Epe Christmas market traditionally attracts many visitors from the neighboring Dutch towns (Enschede, Glanerbrug, Losser, Oldenzaal) — the border is only a few hundred meters away. For Dutch visitors, the German Christmas market is a popular Advent ritual because it differs from the less pronounced Christmas market traditions found there.
The 2026 edition continues the established Advent weekend in Epe. Three days of stalls, a stage, family offerings, and a meeting place in the town center. Program details will be published on gronau-inside.de shortly before the market opens.
Note: Detailed program and stall map on gronau-inside.de.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and gift items are paid for individually at the stalls.
By car: A31 exit Gronau, then B54 towards Epe. By public transport: Bus lines from Gronau-Mitte or from Ahaus/Enschede, stop Epe-Marktplatz. Parking around the pedestrian zone.
Friday, December 4th, 2026, from the afternoon, Saturday, December 5th, and Sunday, December 6th, 2026, all day (exact times will be published on gronau-inside.de). Free admission.
