Cosy three-day Christmas market in the Homburg district of Einöd
While many Advent markets have only emerged in recent years, the Weihnachtsmarkt Einöd has had firm roots for over four decades — the village square at the former town hall has been its traditional location since the early 1980s. In the Einöd district of the university town of Homburg, in the far east of the Saarpfalz district on the border with Rhineland-Palatinate, the market has earned a reputation as the cosiest Advent market in the region.
Unlike most district Christmas markets, which only run for a day or a weekend, Einöd offers a full three days of festivities (Friday to Sunday in the second week of Advent). It is open daily from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. — the quietest time is the afternoon, the most convivial is the early evening with live music.
Around two dozen stalls line the small village square: mulled wine (with and without a shot), children's punch, freshly baked waffles, Saarland bratwurst, steaks, sweets, and cookies. Local craftspeople, beekeepers, and artists also offer homemade goods — Advent wreaths, wood carvings, mulled wine mugs, handmade knitwear, honey, and mead.
Over the three festival days, a number of local music groups perform: brass choirs, children's choirs from local schools and churches, music clubs, and brass ensembles. The mix of classical Advent music and folk contributions shapes the atmosphere.
The market is traditionally opened on Friday evening by the Mayor of Homburg and the local mayor of Einöd together. Afterwards, the Solidargemeinschaft Einöd — a loose association of clubs, initiatives, and active members — takes over the organisational management of the market days.
Einöd lies on the eastern edge of Homburg, on the transition to the Palatinate. The district has its own vibrant club life and the aforementioned town hall from the time when Einöd was still an independent municipality. The Christmas market is an expression of this civic independence — and one of the most beautiful occasions to discover the district.
As in previous years, the Solidargemeinschaft Einöd is scheduling the market for the second Advent weekend (December 12–14, 2025). For 2026, the corresponding weekend is December 11–13. Official confirmation will be provided with the Homburg city's Advent market plan in autumn 2026.
The 2026 program is expected to be published in November 2026. Based on experience, it will follow the pattern of previous years:
