Romantic Advent Market with the motto "Starlight Magic on the Tauber"
Creglingen, idyllically situated in the Tauber Valley between Würzburg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber, invites you to its Christmas market on the first Advent weekend in 2026. Under the motto "Starlight Magic on the Tauber", the historic old town around the main street and the market square will transform into a festively illuminated Advent landscape from Friday, November 27, to Sunday, November 29, 2026. The small Franconian-Baden town in the Main-Tauber district maintains a quiet, intimate style with its market — far from the hustle and bustle of the big Christmas metropolises, but with an atmosphere that brings many regular visitors back year after year.
Creglingen is known far beyond the Tauber Valley for the Herrgottskirche with the Mary's Altar by Tilman Riemenschneider, completed in 1505 — one of the most significant works of German late Gothic wood carving. During Advent, the church is open daily, and many visitors to the Christmas market combine a glass of mulled wine with a moment of quiet contemplation before the altar. Additionally, the Thimble Museum, which documents the history of the thimble, opens its doors and offers its own Christmas program during Advent.
Around 30 to 40 stalls line the market square and the main street — manageable enough to explore the entire selection in an afternoon. The focus is on regional arts and crafts from the Tauber Valley, candied almonds, lard pastries, Franconian mulled wine, children's punch, as well as glassblowing products and wood carvings. Food and drinks range from bratwurst and Franconian snacks to crêpes and gingerbread. Several bakeries offer their own Advent specialties.
The musical supporting program is provided by local choirs, music associations, and the brass group of the town band. Advent songs echo alternately in the market square and the Herrgottskirche. On Sunday afternoon, St. Nicholas traditionally visits the market and distributes small gifts to the children. The stalls run by associations collect for social projects and church restoration — so mulled wine and gingerbread serve not only enjoyment but also a good cause.
