Historic castle spectacle with market life in the Uckermark
The Gerswalde moated castle is one of the oldest preserved castles in the Uckermark. The ring-shaped complex still conveys a true image of a 13th-century castle complex – with numerous medieval architectural traces, a walk-in keep, and archaeological finds that can be viewed in the small castle museum.
Once a year, the castle transforms into a festival stage. The Wasserburgfest 2026 will take place on September 12th and 13th – the gates open at 12 PM. The festival grounds will host knight camps with stages for combat demonstrations, a medieval market with artisans (blacksmiths, horn carvers, shoemakers, potters), jugglers, and minstrels.
On the 2026 program: the magician Mister Kerosin with magic tricks and comedy, the combat demonstration duo Feuerwölfe/Drachenfeuer with a fire show, the music group Sareema with medieval music, a carousel for children, and a varied program of combat demonstrations throughout the day.
The organizer is the Förderverein Wasserburg Gerswalde e.V. (Support Association for Gerswalde Moated Castle), which has been looking after, researching, and culturally revitalizing the castle for decades. The proceeds from the festival go towards the maintenance and restoration of the castle.
The Uckermark is one of the northernmost districts of Brandenburg – a landscape with over 600 lakes, vast forests, and small villages. Gerswalde is located in a quiet, almost forgotten corner of this region. The Wasserburgfest is a welcome opportunity to get to know a historic site that is otherwise mainly visited by walkers and castle museum visitors. In the state of Brandenburg, the Uckermark is one of the most scenically attractive areas – the festival combines this natural backdrop with living history.
