Schützenkorps Walsrode

The Schützenkorps Walsrode is the umbrella organization of several marksmen's companies in the town of Walsrode. It organizes not only the Schützenfest but also the Stadtfest (town festival) and other major events that shape the social life of the Heidekreis capital. Walsrode, with about 24,000 inhabitants, is the largest town in the Heidekreis and an important center of the Lüneburger Heide.

Schützenkorps Vorbrück and the Banquet

The Schützenkorps Vorbrück is one of the traditional Walsrode marksmen's companies. Its contribution to the Schützenfest is the traditional Vorbrücker banquet, which is held as part of the festival weekend. It is considered a culinary highlight and is a central meeting point for club members and their guests.

Parade and King Proclamation

The parade through the Walsrode town center is the visual highlight of the weekend. Marksmen's companies in uniform, marching bands, music groups, and floats march from the Schützenplatz through Lange Straße, past the market square, and back. Thousands of spectators line the streets. Afterwards, the proclamation of the new Schützenkönig (marksmen's king) takes place on the Schützenplatz.

King's Ball and Family Day

On Saturday evening, the Königsball (king's ball) is celebrated in the festival tent. Live music accompanies the festivities late into the night. Sunday is Family Day with carousels, games, and a relaxed Frühschoppen (morning pint) in the festival tent.

Walsrode as the Heidekreis Capital

Walsrode is conveniently located on the A7 motorway and is a junction for several traffic routes in the Lüneburger Heide. In addition to the Schützenfest, the Weltvogelpark (world bird park), the Stadtkirche (town church), and the historic market square are among the most important sights. The Schützenfest benefits from its central location and attracts visitors from the entire Heidekreis.
