Summer open-air series in Walsrode's city centre with live music and free admission
The Walsroder Mittwoch in 2026 comprises four dates spread throughout the summer season. Each evening follows its own concept: sometimes a classic open-air concert, sometimes a themed party, sometimes a mix of concert and open-air cinema. The dates are chosen so as not to overlap with the major Heide festivals in the surrounding area.
The 2026 season's programme features four live acts with different musical genres: on May 20th, the Gaz Guzzlers perform a Soul Show, on June 3rd, the Kiltrock ensemble The Keltics follows, on July 1st, the party band Das Fiasko takes the stage, and on August 5th, a combination of open-air cinema and a concert by the Queen tribute band Merqury concludes the series. Thus, the Walsroder Mittwoch covers a broad spectrum of styles and offers something suitable for different tastes.
The open-air series is deliberately held in Walsrode's city centre to invigorate local gastronomy, retail, and public spaces. During the WaMi evenings, many shops remain open longer, cafés and restaurants utilize outdoor seating, and additional food stalls provide culinary diversity. The open stage and free admission create a casual atmosphere typical of summer festivals in medium-sized Lower Saxon towns.
The series is organised by Stadtmarketing Walsrode in close cooperation with local event agencies, including the traditional showman business Ahlden and Behnke Eventservice. The town of Walsrode supports the series as part of its tourism and economic development efforts. Sponsors from the local small and medium-sized business sector also contribute to the financing, ensuring that admission to all four evenings can remain free.
The series is conceived as a monthly event, with each date having its own musical profile. This creates a diverse open-air offering throughout the summer that appeals to various target groups: from Soul fans to Folkrock enthusiasts, the party generation, and family-oriented cinema-goers. All dates start at 6 PM and end at 11 PM.
The stage is set up at different locations in Walsrode's city centre, depending on weather conditions and sponsorship. The Market Square or the area in front of the Town Hall are common spots. Additional food stalls, beer stands, and mobile cocktail bars cater to the visitors.
