Waldfest Musikverein Dermbach Herdorf

The Waldfest of Musikverein Dermbach is one of those typical Westerwald summer festivals deeply rooted in the culture between the Hellertal valley and the Sauerland region. The event is organized by the music association from Dermbach, a district of Herdorf, which has shaped the musical life of the former mining community for generations.

A Festival in the Middle of the Forest

What sets the Waldfest apart from other association festivals is its location: not a town hall, not a festival ground in the village, but a clearing at the edge of the forest. Beer tent seating, a covered stage, and several catering stations are set up under beech and oak trees. The natural acoustics of the forest lend a special sound to the brass music and create an atmosphere that many visitors specifically seek.

Program from Morning Pint to Sing-Along Evening

The weekend traditionally begins on Saturday evening with a party night, often featuring friendly music associations or dance bands to ensure a good mood. Sunday is dedicated entirely to brass music: after a hearty morning pint gathering (Frühschoppen), there are several guest performances by music associations from the Westerwald, Siegerland, and Sauerland regions, before the day concludes with a cozy wind-down.

Catering by the Association

Catering is entirely in the hands of the association members. There are freshly grilled sausages, fries, steaks, and of course, freshly tapped beer from the barrel. Coffee and cake are served on Sunday afternoon – almost everything is made from donations by the association's family.

Revenue for Association Work

The net proceeds from the Waldfest go directly into the Musikverein's activities: for sheet music, instruments, and especially for youth work. Thus, the festival not only ensures a few cozy summer evenings but also the future of brass music in the Hellertal valley.
