Traditional Kirchweih (church consecration festival) in the shadow of the Jakobsberg with wine from Ockenheim vintners and four days of festivities in the village center.
The Ockenheimer Kerb is a classic Rhenish Volksfest (people's festival) that takes place every year in September. Ockenheim is a traditional wine village in the Gau-Algesheim municipality, located in western Rheinhessen between Bingen am Rhein and Ingelheim at the foot of the distinctive Jakobsberg.
The Kerb 2026 is organized by the local association WinO – Wir in Ockenheim e.V., which brings together local clubs, vintners, and hosts to jointly organize the Kirchweih. This collective organization shapes the character of the event: it is a festival by and for the village community, which simultaneously attracts guests from surrounding villages and the entire region.
The venue is the historic village center around the parish church. Festival tents, stalls, and stages are set up here. The focus of the catering is the wine from Ockenheim vintners, which thrives on the sun-drenched slopes around the Jakobsberg. The wine selection ranges from Rieslings to white and Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) to Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) and other Rhenish specialties.
The culinary accompaniment includes bratwurst and steaks from the grill, Spundekäs (a cheese spread), Handkäs mit Musik (cheese with onions and vinaigrette), Flammkuchen (flatbread), and sweet specialties. Live bands, DJs, and local music groups perform on stage. Classic program points include the tapping of the first beer keg to open on Friday evening, the club night on Saturday, the family day on Sunday with a morning pint and Kerb parade, and the traditional Kerbemontag (Kerb Monday) with a cozy conclusion.
The Ockenheimer Kerb preserves the character of an authentic village festival and stands for the close connection between wine culture, club life, and village community, which is characteristic of Rhenish festival tradition.
