Street festival in Jena's pub district – music, creative market, and hands-on activities
For decades, Wagnergasse has been the gastronomic and student heart of Jena. Student pubs, restaurants, small shops, and cafés line the street – a district that is almost always buzzing with activity. Once a year, the Wagnergassenfest turns this vibrancy into an official city festival.
From 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM, the festival offers a continuous program: jazz, chanson, and salsa concerts, DJ sets on Johannisplatz, a large creative market with arts and crafts, street theater, and international gastronomy. In parallel, the Children's Street Festival by LKG Jena runs with craft and hands-on activity stations.
Jena is an independent city in the state of Thuringia (AGS 16053). The university and science city, home to the Friedrich Schiller University, Carl Zeiss, and the Jena Philharmonic, is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in Central Germany.
In 2026, the Initiative Innenstadt Jena is moving the festival from late summer to May – earlier than usual, the Wagnergassenfest thus brings music, culture, creativity, and encounters to the city center.
Wagnergasse is centrally located in Jena's city center, a short walk from Paradies train station (10 min) and all ICE stops. Take the tram to Holzmarkt or Johannisplatz.
Free admission. Food and market goods at usual market prices.
