Double anniversary with neighbourhood festival and open-air concerts
A park celebrates itself — and does it right: On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the big birthday festival will take place in Volkspark Potsdam. The occasion is a double anniversary: 20 years of ProPotsdam, the municipal real estate and housing company, and 25 years of Volkspark, which has become one of the most popular recreational areas in Brandenburg's state capital after the 2001 Federal Garden Show.
The park opens the festival from 3 PM with a packed afternoon program. Cirque Artikuss juggles and clowns through the meadows, Der bunte Hund plays children's music, The Rokkaz deliver hip-hop, Chris Brandes enchants the audience, JOHNman becomes a living canvas, and The Walking Ballroom transforms the park into a walking circus stage. In parallel, there will be crafting and hands-on activities for children, food stalls with regional and international specialties, plus the Biosphäre's beer garden.
As dusk falls, the open-air concerts take over. The Ruffians bring Berlin ska and reggae to the stage, followed by Fortunate Fools with party music — cover classics for dancing under the trees. Admission is free, and Volkspark will become Potsdam's largest free dance floor this weekend.
Volkspark is located in Bornstedter Feld, the former drill ground which, after the withdrawal of Soviet troops and the 2001 Federal Garden Show, was transformed into a 65-hectare city park. Today, it houses the Biosphäre Potsdam, several playgrounds, a water playground, the Karl Foerster Gardens, and is the venue for festivals such as the Knight Festival, Apple Festival, and International Kite Festival. Belonging to the state of Brandenburg, Potsdam is the state capital and can be reached from Berlin by S-Bahn in 30 minutes.
ProPotsdam GmbH was founded in 2006 as a municipal housing group and is now the city's largest landlord with around 18,000 apartments. It is also responsible for the development of large urban districts such as Bornstedter Feld, Krampnitz, and the Mercure area — and operates Volkspark, one of the city's central leisure spaces. The birthday festival is a thank you to Potsdam's residents and an invitation to all districts at the same time.
