Traditional folk festival in the Dreiburgenland on the second weekend of August
Thurmansbang is located in the Freyung-Grafenau district, in the so-called Dreiburgenland on the edge of the Bavarian Forest – a holiday region that owes its name to the three nearby castles. The Blumenfest is the market town's traditional folk festival and is celebrated on the second weekend of August.
For several days, a large festival marquee is the focal point, where hearty brass music – including from the Thurmansbang Music Association – creates a great atmosphere. Festival activities, Bavarian delicacies, and convivial get-togethers characterize the event.
Following the documented festival schedule, the Blumenfest begins on Friday with the festive parade of local clubs and the beer tapping, followed by evening entertainment. Saturday features festival activities, Sunday a church service, seniors' celebration, and festival entertainment, and Monday a children's afternoon with activities. Thus, the festival appeals to all generations.
The Blumenfest is not the only event in the market town: In the Lindau district, there is a village festival on the second weekend of July, as well as a Pflasterlfest on August 15th. However, the Blumenfest remains the social highlight of the Thurmansbang festival calendar.
Thurmansbang is a state-recognized health resort in the Bavarian Forest National Park holiday region. The Blumenfest combines folk festival culture with the tourist charm of the low mountain range and attracts not only locals but also holiday guests.
In 2026, the Blumenfest will again be celebrated on the second weekend of August. Confirmed via bayerischer-wald.de, hey.bayern, and the official Facebook page of the folk festival. The exact date will be announced by the Markt Thurmansbang before the festival.
