Volkerstadt – Where does the name come from?

Alzey bears the epithet 'Volkerstadt' after the Middle High German heroic saga of the Nibelungenlied. The minstrel Volker von Alzey is one of the main characters of the epic – a valiant warrior and musician who is part of Alzey's identity. The Volkerstadtfest embraces this name and makes it the festival's brand.
