Verl Celebrates

Verl, a medium-sized town of around 26,000 inhabitants in the Gütersloh district (Detmold administrative region, East Westphalia), celebrates the traditional city festival 'Verler Leben' from September 4th to 6th, 2026. Three days of city center funfair, open-air music, stalls from local businesses and clubs, and gastronomic offerings — the city festival is one of the fixed highlights in Verl's event calendar. It is organized by the City of Verl together with the Verler Werbegemeinschaft.

City Center Funfair

The city center funfair extends across Verl's central squares — Marktplatz, Rathausplatz, and surrounding streets will be closed for rides, stalls, and stages. Classic funfair attractions (bumper cars, chain carousel, Ferris wheel, or high-rise rides depending on setup), skill games, candy stalls, snack stands with East Westphalian specialties (Pumpernickel bread, Mettwurst, Pickert), and beer tent catering.

Baseball Rockt Open Air Festival

A special feature is the parallel event: SC Verl, traditionally strong in baseball, hosts the Baseball Rockt Open Air Festival during Verler Leben — a music festival on the club grounds with local bands from East Westphalia-Lippe. The concept combines sporting activity (baseball game on the diamond) with a musical stage — an unusual crossover event in East Westphalian festival culture.

Open-Air Music in the City Center

The Verler Werbegemeinschaft organizes a three-day music program on Marktplatz and Rathausplatz with local bands and regional acts. Genres: Pop, Rock, Cover, Schlager — as agreed. Live music dominates the festival days, especially in the evenings from 6 PM onwards. The exact band list will be announced by the City of Verl in the summer of 2026.

Sunday Shopping and Fireworks

Sunday, September 6th, 2026, is a Sunday shopping day — Verl's shops are open from 1 PM to 6 PM, attracting additional visitors from neighboring municipalities (Gütersloh, Rietberg, Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock). The city festival traditionally ends with fireworks on Sunday evening, colorfully concluding the three-day Verler Leben magic.

Tradition in East Westphalia-Lippe

Verler Leben is among the East Westphalian city festivals — comparable in size and format to city festivals in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Versmold, or Steinhagen. The event has been a firm fixture in the event calendar since the 2010s and is one of the largest city festivals in the southern Gütersloh district.

Getting There

Verl is located on the B 64 between Gütersloh and Paderborn. By car via the A 33 (Verl exit). Public transport: Bus lines of Verkehrsbetrieb OWL (Gütersloh-Verl-Schloß Holte). Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock station is about 7 kilometers away. About a 15-minute drive from Gütersloh, about 25 minutes from Paderborn.
