About Kärwa Veitsbronn

The Veitsbronner Kärwa is the major Franconian Kirchweih (church fair) of the municipality of Veitsbronn in the district of Fürth. For four days, the town celebrates around Nürnberger Straße with everything that belongs to a real Kärwa: digging up the barrel, concert, beer tapping, erecting the Kärwabaum (fair pole) by the fire brigade, the Betz'n dance by the Kärwaburschen and -madli (fair lads and lasses) in traditional costume, brass music, a festival tent with live bands, amusement rides, and a grand fireworks display.

A True Franconian Kirchweih

The Veitsbronner Kärwa is the social highlight of the municipality of Veitsbronn in the district of Fürth (state of Bavaria, administrative region of Middle Franconia). For four days, the town center around Nürnberger Straße transforms into a festival mile. The Kärwa is significantly driven by the association Kärwaburschen und -madli Veitsbronn e.V., which preserves and passes on the old customs.

The Customs of a Kärwa

The Veitsbronner Kärwa thrives on its fixed rituals that return every year:

  • Digging up the barrel: To kick things off, the Kärwaburschen and -madli dig up the traditionally buried beer barrel.
  • Concert at the town hall and a ceremonial beer tapping by the mayor.
  • Kärwabaum: On Saturday, the volunteer fire brigade erects the new, decorated Kärwabaum after the old one has been dismantled.
  • Betz'n dance: On Sunday, the Kärwaburschen and -madli in Franconian costume perform the 'Betz'n' dance – the traditional highlight.
  • Satirical church tours, morning pint, parade.

Festival Tent, Music, and Fireworks

In the festival tent, live bands provide entertainment every evening, alongside Franconian and international specialties, carousels, dodgems, and numerous stalls. The event traditionally concludes with a grand fireworks display. The Family Day on the last day of the Kärwa offers reduced prices on amusement rides.

Kärwa Veitsbronn — edition 2026

The Veitsbronner Kärwa 2026 is scheduled for the weekend of August 14 to 17, 2026, and will take place as usual around Nürnberger Straße. The traditional program points are planned: digging up the barrel, concert with beer tapping, erecting the Kärwabaum by the fire brigade, the Betz'n dance by the Kärwaburschen and -madli, festival tent with live bands, amusement rides, and a grand fireworks display.

The Veitsbronner Kärwa 2026 is planned for the period of August 14 to 17, 2026 (date subject to annual recurrence; the exact program will be published by the Kärwaburschen und -madli Veitsbronn e.V. association shortly before the Kärwa).

The schedule, based on experience, follows the proven pattern: opening on Friday with a concert, barrel digging, and beer tapping; on Saturday, the erection of the new Kärwabaum by the volunteer fire brigade and festival tent operations; on Sunday, church services, morning pint, and the Betz'n dance in traditional costume; on Monday, Family Day with reduced prices and a grand fireworks finale.
