Northern Germany's largest vegan street festival on Spielbudenplatz
Between the Davidwache police station and the Operettenhaus, on Spielbudenplatz in Hamburg's St. Pauli district, the Veganes Straßenfest presents the diversity of the vegan lifestyle every August. Over 40 stalls offer plant-based street food, fair-trade fashion, cruelty-free cosmetics, regional manufacturers, and information from various animal rights organizations. Spielbudenplatz – usually a venue for St. Pauli home games, concerts, and Hamburg city life – becomes a showcase for a movement that has long since arrived in the Hanseatic city for a weekend.
The festival started as a one-day event and grew year by year. After record numbers exceeding 20,000 visitors in the 2025 edition, the organizers responded: in 2026, the Veganes Straßenfest will be celebrated over two days for the first time. Saturday and Sunday will distribute the crowds better, give stallholders more room to maneuver, and allow for a more packed stage program. You can taste at your leisure without being jostled.
The event is organized by the non-profit association Animal Rights Watch e.V., which has been organizing the festival entirely on a voluntary basis since its inception. The proceeds go entirely to selected animal welfare and animal rights organizations. "Without pointing fingers, but with heart and conviction" – this is how the organizers themselves describe it. The festival is thus both a culinary event and a political statement in the state of Hamburg.
The location in the middle of Spielbudenplatz in the Hamburg-Mitte district makes the Veganes Straßenfest easily accessible – the St. Pauli subway station is just a few steps away, and the Reeperbahn begins right next door. Admission is free. You only pay for what you buy at the stalls.
On Saturday and Sunday, August 8th and 9th, 2026, the Veganes Straßenfest will transform Spielbudenplatz in St. Pauli into a plant-based culinary mile for two days for the first time. Over 40 stalls will offer street food, fair fashion, natural cosmetics, and information on animal rights and sustainable consumption.
On stage, three cooking and baking shows will alternate with lectures, live music, and moderation. For the first time, a dedicated tent will be devoted to young vegan start-ups. A raffle, where every ticket wins, complements the program – proceeds go to selected animal welfare organizations.
Opening hours: Saturday 11:00 AM–10:00 PM, Sunday 11:00 AM–7:00 PM. Free admission. Organizer is Animal Rights Watch e.V.
The full stage program will be published shortly before the festival at veganes-strassenfest.de.
Admission to the Veganes Straßenfest is free. Food, drinks, and goods are purchased on-site at the individual stalls.
